The private research company New England Biolabs (NEB) has been well known for its leading role in manufacturing innovative reagents and high-quality enzymes for molecular biology for over 40 years. The company's managers strongly advocate the pursuit of science as a good way to build a more environmentally sensitive and compassionate world. They believe science should be used to expand our understanding of the world around us, and that scientists can also act as humanitarians. At the very core of this ethos is the belief that all species, great and small, benefit from the environment, and that great science is fundamentally creative and artistic, and changes the way we see and experience our world.

In light of this company philosophy, in 2014 NEB launched the "Passion in Science Awards" with the aim of recognizing passionate researchers within the scientific community. The founders of the award saw this as an opportunity to honor the "unsung heroes" of the laboratory. The Passion in Science Awards are being presented once again this year, and so NEB is calling on scientists to nominate either themselves or a colleague for one of the four following award categories: Scientific Mentorship & Advocacy, Environmental Stewardship, Humanitarian Duty and Arts & Creativity. The deadline for nominations is January 31, 2019. The winners will be presented with their prizes at the official award ceremony on the NEB campus in Ipswich (Massachusetts, USA) in May of this year. They will also receive a donation toward developing their projects. For further information, visit: https://nebpassioninscience.com//
