• In focus: Corona as a driver for new paths in drug development and production in Europe
  • Hanover. Germany. acatech - German Academy of Science and Engineering will participate in smartLAB connects on 7 September with a session on "Corona as a driver for new directions in drug development and production in Europe". The digital conference will take place for the first time on 7 and 8 September 2021. With a top-class conference programme, renowned speakers and experts from the world of laboratory technology, it will be streamed online from the Media Factory on the exhibition grounds in Hannover. The core of the two-day online event is the transfer of knowledge on the topics of digitalization, sustainability and pandemics.

    The acatech programme will be introduced by Dr Stefan Oschmann, Vice President acatech and former Merck CEO. This will be followed by a keynote speech by Dr Frank Lammers, Head of Global Quality Biologics R&D, Sanofi Aventis on "Aspects of Quality Assurance in the Development and Production of Modern Biopharmaceuticals".

    "AI techniques in bioanalytics for the biopharmaceutical industry" will be the focus of the presentation by Prof. Dr. Oscar-Werner Reif, Head of Research and Development at Sartorius.

    Dr Barbara Holtz, Expert Business Consultant Life Sciences, Dassault Systèmes, will then talk about the path "From disease to treatment". She will show how data and digital twins are changing the pharmaceutical industry.

    "Active ingredients and patent protection" will be the focus of the presentation by Prof. Dr. Nils Hoppe, Centre for Ethics and Law in the Life Sciences, Leibniz Universität Hannover. He will discuss ethnic and legal issues.

    The session will end with a panel discussion of the speakers, moderated by Prof. Dr. Thomas Scheper, University of Hannover Spokesperson of the acatech Topic Network Biotechnology. The participants of the conference are invited to discuss online with the experts of the panel.
