Hannover, Germany. There are numerous ways of enhancing lab workflows and optimizing analytical procedures, not least automation and the digitized documentation of processes. A range of interesting solutions – both “big and small” – will be honored at LABVOLUTION in September. The LABVOLUTION AWARD is specifically designed for users in lab-related sectors such as laboratories, research teams and individuals. The competition will be supplemented by two special prizes aimed specifically at students and doctoral candidates. These are intended to reward the best bachelor/master’s theses and doctoral dissertations.

“The LABVOLUTION AWARD is primarily designed to highlight outstandingly practical solutions. It is therefore important to us that the event attracts not only the suppliers of modern lab solutions, but also those users who would benefit from such advances and improvements”, explains Bernd Heinold, Project Director of LABVOLUTION at Deutsche Messe. “In addition, we want to provide upcoming talent, students and doctoral candidates with an opportunity to submit and showcase their solutions for the optimization of laboratory workflows and processes.” The criteria for submissions have been deliberately kept as loose as possible: thus users may submit processes, procedures and methods as well as technologies, software, design and management techniques. In addition, the improvement can ideally be documented. For the special prize for students, particular consideration is given to the degree of innovation and relevance of the idea or topic to the optimization of lab workflows. This can touch upon diverse aspects – from increased productivity to cost savings, speed, reliability, safety, consumption of materials, energy efficiency and even staff motivation and job satisfaction.

Submissions by those interested in the LABVOLUTION AWARD can be made as of 15 February 2021. Three finalists will be selected after all entries have been reviewed by an independent jury. The winners will be announced in Hannover during LABVOLUTION 2021 (7–9 September). The award winners will receive training courses (online/physical) and/or advisory services of the business consultancy Geniu, which will offer winning entries the appropriate innovative consulting and training services conceived for the lab sector to the value of €10,000 (1st place), €2500 (2nd place) and €1000 (3rd place). Special awards of €1000 (PhD) and €750 (Bachelor/Master’s) will also be given. In addition, all award winners will receive a display space at LABVOLUTION 2021 (e.g. for a poster presentation and/or exhibit), free participation in the Lab Excellence Forum (one-day seminar organized by Geniu), a subscription to the magazine Laborpraxis, as well as the opportunity to have a report/interview printed in Laborpraxis. Geniu is one of three partners supporting the LABVOLUTION AWARD.
