This talk will introduce the BMBF funded project "BioPace", which aims at developing innovative biohybrid devices enabling the light-dependent photon-activated control of heart muscle contraction.
This highly multidisciplinary project combines, on the one hand, key technologies in physics and engineering such as optogenetics, fiber optics and nanotechnology with innovation in biomedicine on the other hand including human pluripotent stem cells, tissue engineering, animal models and clinical translation.
Driving innovation in all related fields, the ultimate goal of the project is to advanced tools for treating arrhythmic conditions of the heart.
