About 10 - 20 % of the agricultural biogas plants in Germany are equipped with hydrolysis and acido-/acetogenic process units. In combination with the results from the project partners which perform kinetic experiments in lab scale, compilation of process data and the elaboration of design recommendations the urgently needed basic information for the reliable design and efficient operation of hydrolysis- and acido-/acetogenesis process steps will be determined. In frame of this joined project AcEta the aim of this study is the characterization of microbial communities within first stage reactors of agricultural biogas plants. Up to date these populations are not well characterized. In this study several first stage reactors from different agricultural biogas plants were investigated. The cultivation independent method real time PCR quantification of different bacterial and archeal groups was applied.
