For a successful cancer therapy the course of therapy has to be monitored in a reliable way and formation of metastasis has to be detected early on. Liquid biopsy, i.e. the detection of tumour markers in blood, offers the early recognition of tumours with an unknown location or if using classical biopsy techniques is difficult or presents a high risk for the patient to reach the tumour. Therefore, liquid biopsy presents a highly interesting and seminal method. A distinction is made between detecting proteins, circulating tumour cells (CTCs) and tumour specific gene sequences in cell-free DNA (ctDNA). Currently there are only very few validated methods for the analysis of ctDNA. Hence, we established a connected workflow for the analysis of ctDNA in blood samples, starting with sample collection in Cell-Free DNA BCT® Blood Collection Tubes, followed by automated cfDNA isolation using the InviGenius PLUS and the InviMag Free Circulating DNA Kit, and finally resulting in Illumina MiSeq.
